STORY + PHILOSOPHY
My name is Evgeniia Kazarezova, I am a ceramic artist based in Slovakia. I make interactive ceramic sculptures,
I began my path as a ceramist by starting rethinking a concept of a basic ceramic vessel - a vase. I removed the bottom of the vase and began to explore different possibilities of placing plants in vase and vessel in space. From this move appeared Nymph the wearable vase, and Personal Forecast projects.
My inspiration is nature and observation of human beings as a part of natural life. I can see us, people, building borders and separating from nature more than connecting. For me, the process of naturalisation is very important because when I associate myself only as part of nature a lot of “musts”, judgments go away, and only “nothingness” is left.
Also, I explore the topic of Control in our life. When everything is clear and predictable we get a feeling of safety. But life, nature or the universe shows that it doesn’t work like this - unplanned situations, mistakes - we see it like something is going wrong. In my work I’m trying to let go of control and observe with curiosity what will be next. For me the concept of chaos is not so far from exploration of a life flow. I don’t have a negative meaning of chaotic processes. Trust in the universe and our natural feelings such as intuition helps me to create and surf with joy on the waves of disordered life events.
I adore Clay.
I love it as material to work with. Metaphorically this material for me is Nature as it is, Planet Earth, myself as a part of it. It is full of wisdom: flexible and hard, light dust or heavy hardened element. My appreciation of clay as a material dictates my choice of different natural colours and textures of clay - black, white, blue, red, with chamotte or silky. I like minimalistic, natural and brutal aesthetics. I think it goes from my past, my native town in Siberia is cold, grey, dirty, industrial.
I observe how wild nature improves the city by crossing borders we build to separate from it. This deep dialog of thin branches and solid concrete walls shows us our beautiful helplessness in front of a big organism - our planet.
With my interactive objects I want to give the opportunity to create and also to see the results of our collaboration - to explore public reactions through the art.
